  BOGOTA 39

  • What is the future of present day Latin American literature?  Who are the new narrators?  What news of the world do they bring us?  Bogota World Book Capital 2007 and Hay Festival are now launching Bogota 39,  an invitation that will unveil the literary future of the continent.

    VOTE AT  www.bogota39.com

Bogota,  January 22th 2007- Bogota World Book Capital and Hay Festival have joined forces to call together and meet the 39 Latin American narrators more representative of the literary trends of the moment. The readers, publishers, literary agents and writers shall propose the names of this group of new writers. The final list of 39 writers shall be the product of the public vote, and will be selected by a jury of three important Colombian writers: Piedad Bonnett, Héctor Abad Faciolince and Óscar Collazos.

The launching of this invitation will take place at the close of the first Hay Festival event, where Daniel Samper, together with Peter Florence, Óscar Collazos and Martha Senn, will speak on the importance of discovering and reading this new generation of writers that represents the future of Latin American literature, and will invite the public to name the candidates.

In August, Bogota World Book Capital will call together the 39 writers, who will meet with the critics, writers and readers of the city. For Cristina Fuentes, Director of Hay Festival in Colombia, “this shall be an opportunity for the new writers to share all their strength and energy with the public of the capital.” This will also give these new representatives of latin american literature a chance to meet new audiences and new markets.
